Halifax Gives Torontonians a Dose of the East Coast This WeekFriday, June 7, 2013 - 15:15
This week marked the launch of a creative new Destination Halifax travel contest geared towards bringing Torontonians close to the East Coast.
Building on Tourism Nova Scotia “Peggy’s Corner” lighthouse promotion - a 28 foot replica of the iconic lighthouse temporarily installed on the corner of Bay and Wellington in downtown Toronto - representatives from Halifax were situated downtown on Wednesday and Thursday this week to hand deliver an up close view of Halifax and the unique experiences it has offer, by way of customized ViewMaster-style 3D viewers and cartridges.
“A promotion of this nature can serve to build on the incredible presence the Tourism Nova Scotia has recently achieved in the Ontario market while reminding the people of Toronto that an exciting Halifax vacation is at their fingertips,” says Patricia Lyall, Destination Halifax President & CEO.
“We hope it will encourage both return and first-time visitors to discover how easy it is to get close to the East Coast.”
Close to two thousand Torontonians were engaged during the two day promotion in the busy downtown district and garnered an overwhelmingly positive response.
A native of Jamaica, Toronto resident Harriet Brown remarked, “Oh, these photos are so beautiful, they remind me of home. I've always wanted to visit the east coast!”
Destination Halifax’s Toronto promotion also included the launch of “Get Close to the East Coast”, a contest that gives Torontonians the chance to win a trip to Halifax. This coincides with the recent launch of Destination Halifax’s all-new Itinerary Builder, an online trip-planning tool for visitors.
To enter the Get Close to the East contest, visit www.destinationhalifax.com/win. Contest is open to residents of Ontario who enter before 4 p.m. (AST) on July 2, 2013. Full contest rules and regulations are available on the contest site.
