Halifax, October 29, 2015 – Sandra Starratt has received a Destination Halifax Ambassador Award for the success of bringing the Canadian Student Leadership Conference to Halifax.
“Several years ago Sandra thought it was time for the CSLA annual meeting of student leaders and staff advisors to return to Halifax,” said Hélène Moberg, Executive Director, Sales, Destination Halifax. “She gained the support of her colleagues as well as the Halifax School Board Superintendent Office to seek host city status for the conference, and her bid submission was accepted.”
The conference took place at Halifax West High School, Lockview High School and the BMO Soccer Centre from September 22 to September 25 and attracted 1,000 delegates and student from across Canada.
The CSLA mandate is to re-invent the role of the student council to leadership certification for teachers; Canada’s national organization dedicated to the promotion and development of student leadership in Canada’s high schools. Through conferences, a dynamic peer community, and a wide variety of resources, the CSLA supports its advisor members and their students in all aspects of leadership development.
“Halifax was a great city to host this national student leadership conference because not only is the city steeped in history and culture, but all those in attendance remarked that the east coast reception was as warm and welcoming as they had anticipated,” said Sandra.
The Ambassador Program is an alliance of individuals and organizations who achieve economic growth for the Halifax region through the promotion of Halifax as a premier meetings and conventions destination. The program has been led by Destination Halifax since 2002.
