Canadian Naval Centennial: International Fleet Review
June 26, 2010
- July 02, 2010
Major international fleet assemblies are scheduled in Victoria and in Halifax during the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo in celebration of the Canadian Naval Centennial.
Tradition plays a large part in the review. The participating ships anchor in two or more lines with an open space between. Each one is 'dressed overall' with flags and pennants.
As the ship carrying the reviewing officials steams between the lines, each ship in turn salutes and the crew "cheers the ship". The crew is spaced at even intervals, along the guardrails as the reviewing official passes. The officers are positioned on the upper decks with the Captain on the bridge. As the reviewing ship sails past, the ship's company gives three cheers to the reviewing official and wave their caps.
Both formations are planning local activities around these events.
