Halifax Day Trips
Drive 20 minutes in either direction from the city of Halifax and a whole new world awaits. Take a stroll on pristine Martinique Beach on the Eastern Shore or visit renowned Peggy’s Cove fishing village on the South Shore for a peek at the lighthouse and a glimpse into maritime life. A few other day trip discoveries:
- Ride the waves at Lawrencetown Beach. This popular beach has gained a reputation as an international surfing destination.
- Take a hike. There are many hiking trails and parks along the Eastern Shore. Try a portion of the Musquodoboit Trail (16.5 kms), which will take you from the Musquodoboit Harbour to Gibraltar Rock.
- Explore Nova Scotian heritage. Visit Fisherman’s Reserve at Three Fathom Harbor or Memory Lane Heritage Village to learn more about history and life in the maritimes.
- Have an outdoor adventure. Try sea-kayaking, deep-sea fishing, rock-climbing, windsurfing or canoeing.
- Explore the idyllic fishing village Peggy’s Cove where the rocky shores and picturesque lighthouse are a photographer’s dream. Continue driving along the Lighthouse Route to meander through the many South Shore fishing villages.
- Take a historic tour. From the SS Atlantic Heritage Park at Terence Bay to the Swiss Air Memorial near Peggy’s Cove to the 1794 Pioneer Cemetery at French Village, the South Shore is the perfect destination for historians.
- Discover Nova Scotia folk art in the artisans communities of Mahone Bay and Lunenburg.
